Birthday Lovin’ on the Run

I wasn’t happy. It was five o’clock and Ryan still hadn't arrived home. I should have known better to believe him when he promised he’d be on time today. Ryan hasn’t been on time since he hired his too young, too blonde, assistant Julia. It made me wonder what exactly she was assisting my husband with.

At twenty-six I consider myself too old to play the jealous wife, but recently Ryan’s given me plenty of reasons to feel the part. Alone at the table I push my dinner around my plate and my bare ass is growing cold against the leather cushion of the chair. I was planning to surprise Ryan with dinner and more, but now my g-string and apron clad body feels colder and lonelier than it has in a long time.

“I’m too young to feel this old,” I say to my now cold mashed potatoes, “Tomorrow I’ll be twenty-seven.”

The potatoes don’t answer, but I talk on anyway. Hell, it’s not much different than talking to Ryan recently.

Damn it, I at least expected him to show up on time, even if we just had missionary on the bed. Even if it was boring sex, at least, it would be sex.

“Donna!” Ryan yells from downstairs. His deep voice sends a shiver down my spine. In the earlier days of our marriage I looked forward to him coming home. He’d come through the door kicking his shoes off and pulling his fast food shirt over his head.
